We arrange ant control across the whole Auckland region, and the service itself is the same everywhere: a technician comes to the property, inspects, identifies the species and prices the work in writing. What differs is the property. A 1910 villa on scoria, a 2018 terrace on a slab and a lifestyle block with sheds and tanks each hide ants in different places, so each area page below starts from what is actually built and growing there.
Pick your area
Each page covers one part of Auckland: the housing you'll find there, the ground it sits on, where ants tend to nest and get in, anything local that changes the job, and travel notes. If your suburb isn't named, choose the nearest one; the advice carries across.

Why the same ant behaves differently across the region
The four introduced ants that cause most indoor trouble live throughout Auckland, but the buildings decide where they settle. Timber homes on piles give ants a sheltered sub-floor and dozens of gaps in old joinery. Homes on concrete slabs push ants to the slab edge, the garage and cladding cavities. Apartments add shared walls and service risers. Rural blocks add sheds, tanks, coops and long fence lines.
Ground matters too. The isthmus and parts of the North Shore sit on volcanic soils with dry stone walls that make excellent nest sites. Much of the rest of the region is Waitematā clay, which cracks in summer and holds water in winter. Coastal and estuary-edge properties get salty winds and sandy soils. Bush-edge sections have native ants outside that should be left alone.
How far Argentine ants have spread
Argentine ants were first found in New Zealand at Mt Smart Stadium in Penrose in 1990. Landcare Research puts their natural spread at about 150 metres a year, because queens don't fly and colonies spread by budding. Their reach across Auckland since then has come mostly from people moving soil, plants, building materials and freight from one property to another.
That history means infestations are patchy. One street can be heavily affected while the next is clear, and a single shared hedge or pile of garden soil can carry them across. It's also why Auckland Council's pest plan bans moving or releasing Argentine ants, and why its Hauraki Gulf rules are stricter still. If you're heading to Waiheke, Kawau or Aotea Great Barrier, read the islands page first.
Travel, timing and price
Price is set by the property and the work, not by the postcode. The published Auckland range runs from about $210 to $255 incl GST for one area or a small home, and about $340 to $400 incl GST for inside and outside of a typical three-bedroom house. Outlying rural addresses can carry a travel charge, which you'll hear about before anything is booked.
Timing follows the season more than the map. From November to March every part of Auckland gets busy at once, so booking early in spring helps wherever you are. The cost page has the sources for the figures above.
What we don't do by area
There are no different methods for different suburbs, no "local specials" and no claim that a technician lives on your street. What changes is where the technician looks first, and the area pages explain that honestly. If your situation doesn't match the description for your area, that's normal: every section is different.
Ant control questions
Do you cover the islands?
Ask when you call. Island visits depend on ferry timing and the island's biosecurity rules, and are confirmed case by case.
Is there a travel charge?
Within the urban area, usually not. Rural Rodney and Franklin addresses can carry one; it is confirmed before booking.
My suburb isn't listed. Do you still come?
Yes. The pages cover broad areas; the service covers the whole Auckland region.
